Leighton Town 2-1 Arlesey Town – Dudley Latham Cup

In what was the second game of the Dudley Latham Cup, Leighton Town triumphed 2-1 against Arlesey. This somewhat quiet game under the lights at Bell Close was the perfect opportunity for squad rotation, debutants and the returning injured. Goals came from Jack Harvey and Lewis Toomey, before the visitors pulled one back with a penalty.
The hosts opened the scoring with just four minutes on the clock. Reece Robins set pulses racing with his cross from the left, yet Lewis Toomey kept a cool head to nod back across for Jack Harvey to bundle in.
From the debuting Max Farrelly at the back to the returning Toomey up top, Town’s composure on the ball was solid. However, despite Kwai Marsh-Brown and Reece Robins’ efforts, the home side couldn’t capitalise from their wing play. Before the half was over, Lewis Toomey did nearly double the lead but his chip didn’t have enough on it to truly trouble Ollie Skinner in the blues’ net.
As they had in the first, Town began the second half with a goal. Yet another well worked opportunity, this corner from the left was headed back across by Luke Pyman. With the keeper stranded, Lewis Toomey headed in on 52 minutes.
15 minutes before time, the men in red and white were caught napping at the back and gave away a penalty. Arlesey new man Sudayisi Sendenge converted from the spot powerfully to give the visitors something to fight for.
That said, Leighton managed the final minutes well and saw this one out to progress. On Saturday, the opposition are Shefford and Campton away in the FA Vase.

LTFC XI: Comas; Towell, Dumbuya, Connolly (C), Farrelly, Pyman, Harvey, Spaul, Toomey, Robins, Marsh-Brown.
Subs: Fitzgerald, Goodman, Cooper, Holland, Turner.
