Four more points to go… Leighton Town 3-0 Risborough Rangers

Andrew Parker9 Apr 2023 - 15:40

Leighton Town secured a top two finish with a consummate 3-0 victory over third placed Risborough Rangers yesterday.

With goals from Leon Lobjoit and Kyle Connolly in front of the 604 in attendance, it now leaves just four points standing between Lee Bircham’s men and the league title.
Under the Bell Close sunshine, Leighton put their visitors under pressure as Kyle Connolly nearly opened the scoring with a header on 15’. Goalkeeper Connor Hunt saved well, and he’d be called into action again just five minutes later, charging out and blocking down low.
On the half hour mark, heads were in hands as Leon Lobjoit headed onto the bar. However, it was more than a positive sign as just six minutes later, Town forced a penalty. Luke Pyman drove the ball into the box and the defender blocked with his hands up. Lobjoit stepped up and slammed it in off the right post to send the men in red and white into the break with the lead. It was Lobjoit’s 52nd goal of the season…
In the second half, the hosts continued where they had left off. Kyle Connolly curved in a brilliant cross from the left and a Lobjoit header was again denied by the crossbar. It wasn’t too big a deal though, as the striker got his second on 54 minutes. For his 53rd of the term, it looked like a case of everything he touched turning to gold. The ball was floated in from deep and Lobjoit brought it down with his chest excellently. With slight contact from behind, he stumbled yet was able to slash at the ball whilst on the floor – sending it into the bottom right corner.
78 minutes saw Kyle Connolly well and truly settle proceedings. Leon Lobjoit was clean through and rounded Hunt in the Risborough net. The forward went down under the challenge, but Connolly was on hand to slot it past a recovering defender.
As mentioned at the start, all Town need to seal the title is four points. The next test comes tomorrow at Ardley United, before the league could be wrapped up on Saturday at Bell Close with a win against ST Panteleimon.
LTFC XI: Comas; Connolly (C), Folarin, Beck, Pyman, Towell, Spaul, McClelland, Marsh-Brown.
Subs: Toomey, Robins, Jackson, Seabrook, Marsh.
